Cruising Connections Instructions

Cruising Connections is a bulletin board that helps PTYC members organize personal cruises with fellow members. These cruises are not sponsored by PTYC and do not receive funding. The three forums are “Pop-Up Cruises”, “Casual Cruises 2017, and “Crew Wanted or Crew Available. Cruise Connections is not a blog. Only cruise related announcements may be posted on the forums. This is not the place to advertise items for sale, discuss maintenance issues, or share your recipe for margaritas.

Getting Started
You can only access Cruising Connections through the PTYC website under “Boating” using the member’s only password.   Then clink on this link:  Cruising Connections

The page will look like the image below, without the numbers. The numbers on the image below are explained in the numbered list below.

  1. Register
Click this link to setup a CC account for yourself. You do not need an account to look at the CC Bulletin Board, but you do need one to post a cruise of your own or reply to a cruise announcement.
To register, you need an email address that has not already been used to setup a CC account. If you use your first and last name as your “user name”, it will be easier for other members to recognize you.  Each member must use a separate email address.
After you register, check your email for a message from “WordPress” for confirmation and a link to set a new password. You may need to check your spam or junk mail file. You may keep the assigned password or change it. To enter a new password, delete the sample password in the second box and add your own password. The “hint” is only a suggestion and we recommend that you use a short, simple password that is easy to remember.
  2. Login
When you want to post a cruise or reply to a cruise, you need to click the “Login” button and provide the username and password that you setup when you registered.
  3. Pop-up Cruises (last minute or spontaneous cruises within a couple of weeks)
Click this link to see all of the Pop-up Cruises posted. Only the 3 latest postings appear here!
  4. Recent Cruise Postings
You can click on any of these items to view that cruise posting and any replies made to it. This will give you the opportunity to reply to  a cruise posting.
  5. Casual Cruises (member cruises scheduled out few weeks or months in calendar year)
Click this link to see all of the Casual Cruises posted. Only the 3 latest postings appear here!
  6. Crew Wanted or Crew Available
Click this link to see all of the Crew Wanted or Crew Available posts. Only the 3 latest postings appear here!
  7. Most Recent Contributor
This area shows who last posted or replied to a given post. You can click on this if you like to see that person’s profile, but you won’t find anything very interesting there.
  8. Navigation Breadcrumbs
This a way to show you where you are within the CC Bulletin Board system. This bulletin board is not very deep, so you probably won’t use the Navigation Breadcrumbs.

Posting a New Cruise
On the main bulletin board page, shown above, click on the type of cruise you want to post: Pop-up, Casual or Crew. The appropriate page will be displayed. For example, the Pop-up Cruise page is shown below.
The red numbered items are explained in the list below the image.

  1. Add topic – Click this button to post your own new cruise of this type. Give your cruise a title that includes an approximate date. Write a short summary of your event and save.  DO NOT ADD ATTACHMENTS!  They take too much data!  They can be emailed to those who are interested.
  2. Click on the title of an existing cruise to see the full posting and all replies related to that cruise. After you have clicked on a cruise, you can post a reply related to that cruise. See below.
  3. Subscribe for new topics – Click this link and when anyone posts a new cruise or replies to any cruise posting, you will get an email from “PTYC Cruising Connections BB”. This will keep you informed as cruise planning evolves. You can always unsubscribe from this page.
  4. You can click on an item in the navigation Breadcrumbs to go back to any page in the CC Bulletin Board. Or you could just use the BACK button in your browser.

Posting a Reply to a Cruise
If you want to join a cruise, you can always just get in touch with the person posting the cruise via email or phone or reply to a cruise here.  When you click on an individual cruise title, the original posting and all of the replies are shown. For example, the fake Pt. Hudson Cruise is shown below.
The red numbered items are explained in the list below the image.

  1. The name and some information about the person who made the posting are displayed. A photo appears if the person uploaded one to their profile. This is not necessary.
  2. REPLY – This is the most important item here. Click Reply to post your own response to this cruise posting. Click SAVE to save your reply on this page so everyone can see it.
  3. Subscribe for new replies – Click this link and when anyone replies to this cruise posting, you will get an email from “PTYC Cruising Connections BB”. This will keep you informed as cruise planning evolves. You can always unsubscribe from this page.
  4. Navigation Breadcrumbs. Use them or use your browser’s  BACK button.

If you have any questions, contact Sue McKay, Bill Baratuci, Macy Galbreath, or Ilona Bell. During the cruising season, the response time may be a little longer than during the rest of the year.
