Happy New Year!
As I’m writing this, the aroma of gingerbread baking is filling the house. It’s been a frenzy getting the holiday cookies baked, the gifts wrapped, and the tree decorated. But I’ve once again, pulled it off in time (barely!) before the kids arrived.
What is your 20/20 vision for 2020? Mine is a year with fun-filled events and cruises with PTYC. We are truly blessed to live in an area that offers so many beautiful destinations to explore. And of course, it’s not just the destination but the scenic journey and camaraderie with fellow boaters along the way.
Here it is, barely 2020, and we already have events on the calendar. The first event, on January 18, is the COW. The COW(?!) new members are asking? That’s PTYC language for Change of Watch. COW is a gala dinner and more formal event, where we honor outgoing Board Members and welcome in the new Board. The decorating and transformation of the clubhouse is always a magical sight to see. I hope you have your reservations!
Our second event is the very important Cruise and Event Planning Meeting, to be held on Saturday, February 1, 9 am to noon, led by our new 2020 Fleet Captain, Elizabeth Eisenhardt. PTYC will provide the coffee and goodies; we’d like YOU to provide the ideas.
Where would you like to cruise this year? What is your “20/20 vision” for events? This meeting is always a fun brainstorming session and a time to think about stepping up to be Cruise and Event Captains, Co-Captains, or even “Co-Captains in Training.” Bring your calendars and a pencil and join in to make 2020 the best cruising and events year ever. Bob and I are excited to see you out on the water.
Membership renewals are coming in and we thank you for contributions to the scholarship fund, as well. Please remember to get your renewal in before January 15 to avoid a late fee, and before February 1 to avoid being dropped from membership. New Vice Commodore Dave McCammon will appreciate your timeliness as he uses your updated information in preparation of the 2020 Roster.
I’ll have to say we have a pretty awesome Board this year to serve you, and I feel honored to be your 2020 Commodore. Board members come and go at the Change of Watch every year, but the friendships that are made are everlasting. I feel those same friendships blossom and build on every cruise, every event gathering, through volunteering and being involved in PTYC.
I’ll end with a little hint for the Mariner Quizzes this year. Brush up on your Washington State Parks and British Columbia Provincial Parks boating destinations. What superb resources we have to get the best out of boating!
And now a toast: Here’s to starting the New Year with 20/20 vision!
Debbie Williams, Commodore
