Ahoy All & Some Major Accomplishments to Date....

Scott Abbey | Published on 10/3/2025

Ahoy all,

With the changes that are coming to our Club, I have been reflecting on where we’ve been and where we are going. Over the past month, the club has had some very positive things. The final Cruise of the season went off without a hitch and fun was had by all. The Soup and Salad Potluck was as an excellent return to the Club.

I attended the second meeting of the Transition Committee and I want to report our club is in good hands. They’ve organized work groups to handle every aspect of the move. The biggest issue left is what to do about the Bar. Over the next few months this issue will be debated with the final decision by the Membership. Next, we had an excellent Cruise and Event Planning Meeting and those who attended provided valuable input and perspectives. I came away from this meeting realizing that the Club really wants to socialize and have fun and we need that as our primary focus. The eviction from our Clubhouse and search for a new meeting place has really put a strain on the fun. Now let’s get back to Fun.

Of course I want to thank all of the Cruise Captains and Watch Captains! We all know who they are because they step up all the time devoting countless hours to this club. Going forward we need more support from more people in these areas. It was suggested at our Events meeting that we promote service opportunities on our website. We will also be providing signup sheets at our next meeting encouraging more members to get involved.

Meanwhile, I want to give a big thanks to the people who support many behind the scenes work but rarely get credit. Scott Love and Bill James are always there to help with setup, John Powers is always there to sweep the floor and help with the trash after events and meetings. Bill Baratuci is our resident A/V problem solver, and Duane Madinger for anything Clubhouse related. I cannot begin to name all the kitchen helpers because at any given event many seem to pitch in. You all know who you are and I thank you for your efforts.

Comradery is built through shared tasks and experiences! As we go into the final stretch of this year let’s finish strong!

Cheers,

Commodore Scott
