About this event
This cruise will allow for a choice of anchoring or moorage at several of our stops. We will hold a pre-cruise planning session to discuss the different cruising interests and choice of destinations after reaching Princess Louisa.
Tentatively, the plan is to gather in the San Juan Islands on June 12th. No specific destination has been chosen yet as we will see what the registrants want to do. Options are many but may include Friday Harbor, Blind Bay (buoys and anchorage), Deer Harbor (marina or anchorage), or Prevost Harbor (dock and anchorage closest to BC).
On June 13th we will check in with Customs at Bedwell Harbour and then continue North to Montague Harbour (marina, anchorage, or buoys).
On June 14th. We will head to either Page's Resort at Silva Bay Marina via Gabriola Pass or to Nanaimo via Dodd Narrows and will plan for two days at either location as we watch and await a fair weather crossing of the Straits of Georgia. This is a good time to enjoy a group shared meal and enjoy the peaceful Gabriola Island or the City of Nanaimo, depending on your preference of moorage. Should the group be split, we will remain in contact by phone to coordinate the crossing.
Assuming that we cross on June 16th, we will head to Madeira Park Marina in Pender Harbour for a 2 night stay and provisioning at the local IGA store. The Marina is first come-first served but also allows for nearby anchorages and marinas as may be needed. Typically mid-June cruising is light on marine traffic.
If all goes as planned without weather impediments, we will head up to Princess Louisa on June 18th, timing the 45 nautical mile trip to be ready to enter Malibu Rapids at slack. The Princess Louisa Provincial Park dock and buoys allow a maximum of 72 hours at no charge with a suggested nightly donation of $20 for the dock and $10 for buoys. When the weather allows, it is a fabulous spot for kayaking and exploring by dinghy, there are trails and Park spaces to explore, or play in the mist of Chatterbox Falls. We will plan a shared meal, happy hours and other group activities as desired.
Following Princess Louisa, some cruisers may choose to go north to Desolation Sound and beyond. Others may choose to cruise south to Secret Cove and Bowen Island(or Vancouver) before crossing back to the Gulf Islands.
