Well it certainly is a NEW YEAR! The clubhouse will soon be cleared and we will be operating out of the Northwest Maritime Center for designated meetings only. The first board meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 6th at noon. As always, any member can attend the board meetings. If you have a topic that you would like the board to address, please send a message a few days ahead of the meeting.
Our general meeting on the following Tuesday, January 14th, features Patrick Gallagher, a Coast Guard veteran who will speak about Search and Rescue and how vessel traffic is managed. I hear he is very dynamic! Please remember to bring your beverage for the Happy Half Hour...wine cans, beer and soft drinks will be easy to tote up the meeting room, and remember a glass to drink out of, if that is your preference! The watch will have some tasty food tidbits too.
Since we only have the NWMC rooms for specified dates, we encourage you to host pop-up gatherings in and around the Port Townsend area. Finn River, Marrowstone and Port Townsend Wineries, and other venues are great places for us to gather on a cold and rainy night!
The COW will be held at the NWMC too. Please sign up ASAP. The outgoing board and incoming board need your support and being there will show them that you appreciate their efforts. As I understand it (I am not privy to the details), the COW committee has a fun night planned and we hope you will join us!
Dan and I are leading an RV and cabin yurt adventure the 1st week of March. There are 12 people traveling so far and you are welcome to join us! We will stop in Grayland and Fort Stevens and tour the museums at Raymond, as well as the Lewis and Clark sites as well. We encourage you to bring your dogs; there are beautiful beaches for them to play! Let me know if you are interested!
In preparation for our Night of Gold, I encourage you to read the book " A Ship of Gold in a Deep Blue Sea." by Gary Kidder. Our speaker was a member of the search team that found the wreck and he appears as a player in the saga. Debbie Williams and I will host a book group prior to March 28th, where we will discuss the book. Let me know if you have read the book and are interested in discussion to enhance your experience on the 28th.
