Opening Day Cruise-in to Port Ludlow

Every yacht club has its traditions, but common to all yacht clubs is celebrating the Opening Day of boating season, even in places where boating is year round!

Port Townsend honors this tradition with a celebration on the first weekend of May. This year we will combine the Cruise-in with a special dinner in the shore-side tented pavilion to honor those who have provided leadership to our club. An overnight stay at the Marina offers resort amenities and great walking trails, with a lovely short hike to the local Ludlow Falls. All members and prospective members are invited to attend, by boat or by car.

Spring Shakedown Cruise to Hat Island and Langley

Good for you if you cruised to Port Ludlow on Opening Day! If not, are you prepared to come out of winter hibernation for your shake-down cruise? Our first stop will be Hat Island (aka Gedney Island), a privately owned Island and Marina just west of Everett. We have the nights of May 13 & 14 reserved for no more than 12 boats and plan to enjoy all that Hat Island has to offer with power and water at their docks, restroom and shower facilities ashore, a covered BBQ pavilion and a private 9 hole golf course. On day of arrival we will gather for happy hour and heavy appetizers. On day 2, your cruise co-captains will again host a fun "1 Club" Golf Team Scramble, no golfing experience required! Plans are in the works with more detail to follow!

On May 15th, the group will cruise a short distance to the Port of South Whidbey (aka: Langley) which offers some great food and beverage options and quaint retail shopping upon arrival. Our Co-Captains are exploring options for group activities, to be announced at a later date. Some may wish to stay an extra night to take in all that the town of Langley offers before returning home or continuing the shakedown jouney.

"First Cruise" Puget Sound

Are you new to cruising Puget Sound or wanting to learn more about local boating, boat/line handling, anchoring, radio etiquette or club cruising? Or maybe you just like cruising local waters...then this cruise may be for you. The plan is to visit some local marinas with full amenities (Ludlow, Kingston and Poulsbo) with each offering dining and provision opportunities. This cruise will be designed around the needs and desires of the cruise participants so let your cruise captains know what you are hoping to learn and we will do our best to meet your needs.

Princess Louisa/Chatterbox Falls Cruise via Gulf Islands

With this cruise we are heading to one of the most beautiful destinations on the B.C. mainland coast to visit Princess Louisa Inlet and the famous Chatterbox Falls. One frequent description is "Heaven on Earth". This is an isolated inlet that is entered via the Malibu Rapids and is surrounded by 3,000 foot high mountains that sharply rise from the sea and are dripping with waterfalls. Yes, it can be wet, but it can also be glorious!

The tentative plan is to depart north via the San Juans and Gulf Islands to arrive in either Nanaimo (for provisioning) or Silva Bay and awaiting the weather window for a good crossing northeast across the Strait of Georgia to Pender Harbour's Madeira Park Marina. Fuel is available in Nanaimo, Pender Harbour or Eggmont, as may be needed, before beginning the long reaches up to Princess Louisa. Waggoner's reports that it is 45 nautical miles from Pender Harbour to Chatterbox Falls at the head of Princess Louisa Inlet. Details of the planned stops at marinas or anchorages along the way have yet to be determined. Princess Louisa has a 650' long park dock and 5 nearby mooring buoys, all at no charge. Stays are limited to 72 hours.

Following the Princess Louisa stay, some cruisers may elect to continue north to Desolation Sound or return south via the Sunshine Coast to the Gulf Islands. A group meeting will be used to firm up return travel plans.

"Around Whidbey" to Fourth of July at Reid Harbor, Stuart Island

"Believe me ... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats"

Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

This is ever so true for our Club's traditional 4th of July cruise to Reid Harbor. For more than three decades our Club has shown our patriotic colors and embarked on a 4th July dinghy parade like no other to greet fellow boaters anchored in this lovely Harbor. Rain or shine, we brighten the day for those yachters who seek a "quiet" holiday celebration.

Reid Harbor is unique in that we endeavor to occupy an entire floating dock for our festivities and shared meals. For those who enjoy a more private space, the bay has multiple mooring buoys and anchorages where the PTYC flotilla is just a dinghy ride away.

This year we contemplate a short "Around Whidbey" cruise to link up with the 4th July cruise, getting to the San Juans via the east side of Whidbey Island. Potential stops along the way include the Port of South Whidbey, Oak Harbor and Cornet Bay. We are looking for Cruise Co-Captains for each part of the cruise (Around Whidbey approx June 26-30 and July 2-5 at Reid Harbor) who may help with planning of food, moorage and group activities. Contact our Fleet Captain Linda Abbey if you can help out.

Anacortes Arts Festival

Co-Captains: Bill & Eileen Baratuci, Co-Captains TBD

Back by popular demand, this cruise is perfect for a destination weekend at one of the oldest and largest arts festivals in the Northwest. Enjoy three days of perusing over 230 artisan booths, be entertained by multiple stages of free entertainment, partake at two beer gardens and a wine bar, and delight in lots of great downtown Anacortes shopping and dining. After a flurry of activity in town, it is always nice to come back to the marina and enjoy the outstanding facilities and socializing on the docks and our private party dock. 12 slips are reserved. Early registration for this cruise is necessary due to space limitations for this popular destination. We will announce when reservations can be made after Co-Captains are in place and cruise planning is completed.

For those wishing to attend without a boat, there are many shoreside options for lodging as well as an excellent new city RV Park south of the marina and another nearby to Washington Park. Reserve early for the best option for you.

More details to follow as plans are made.

Bell Harbor and/or Kingston Winter Cruise

Do you enjoy the warm camaraderie of a Holiday cruise in early December? If so, consider Co-Captaining this cruise and head to a festive location such as the Port of Kingston or downtown Seattle at Bell Harbor. Both have previously offered excellent holiday sights and activities, especially the festive Kingston lighting display in the park on the first Saturday of December. The cruise plan is "in the works" with more detail to follow.
