Change of Watch

Port Townsend Yacht Club Pub Night

For this event, outgoing 2024 Commodore Eileen Baratuci and her Committee will transform the clubhouse into a Brew Pub with fun and games, snacks and a hearty buffet dinner to honor and show appreciation for our 2024 Officers and Trustees as well as to celebrate incoming Commodore Scott Abbey and his 2025 Board. The Club requires countless hours of volunteer efforts and this is the member's special night to acknowledge, honor, and celebrate our Club's accomplishments and look forward to the opportunities in the new year ahead.

Wear your favorite team jersey and come enjoy the place "where everybody knows your name" (or will soon)!

Scholarship Fundraiser at Key City Theater

"Sailing 'Round The World" (twice!) by Ginger Niemann

Come hear the exciting tales of adventures on the World's high seas. Peter and Ginger Niemann began a liveaboard, sailing and cruising life in 2004 when they bought a 47-foot sloop, Marcy. After "fixing her up" they departed on a 4 year circumnavigation from Seattle going west-about via the Cape of Good Hope. Highlights included the South Pacific islands, New Zealand, Australia and Madagascar, rounding Cape Horn and returning via Hawaii and Alaska. Returning to Seattle gave them a chance to replenish the coffers and find a new vessel, the 50 foot ketch named Irene. They departed again in 2017, this time taking an east-about circumnavigation via the Northwest Passage, Europe, the Suez Canal, Singapore, Japan and Alaska. The World-wide Covid outbreak played a major role in these travels. In August 2021 they returned to their homeport in Ballard. They now call Port Townsend their home. In 2022, Ginger and Peter received the Cruising Club of America Blue Water Medal for their accomplishments and spirit of adventure. You don't want to miss this presentation!

The public is welcome to attend this workshop

No registration or fee is required

Offered three times a year at the Clubhouse, these workshops bring together members and fellow boaters to discuss topics of boating interest.

Most importantly, he will take the mystery out of vessel shipping/relocating and the comfort he found through sailors of like interests exploring the world's ports and connecting via radio.

Open Boat Day at Boat Haven, Port of Port Townsend

Co-Captains: Bill Baratuci, Duane Madinger

Non-Members Welcome to View Boats

No registration required except those hosting boats

This year our annual "Open Boat" event will be held at Boat Haven Marina, home port to several of our PTYC members. From 1-4 PM, members who wish to participate will welcome fellow PTYC members aboard to share some hosted wine (and, in some cases, snacks) and share their vessel's history. It's a wonderful way to get to know our members and put faces with boats/names and also to see the infinite ways that we all live while on the water. It's also a great time to share boating knowledge and expertise, perhaps finding someone who has met a challenge you may face in maintaining your vessel. See you on the docks!

Past Commodores Dinner

Captains: Eileen Baratuci & Board

Honoring the fine tradition of holding an "Opening Day" weekend to remember, PTYC will have a Cruise-In to Port Ludlow Marina and honor our Club's past Commodore's and their years of service with a special Dinner under the tent at the Port Ludlow Marina Pavilion. Even though many of us are out boating year round in our waters, there is something special about spiffing up the vessel, hoisting decorative flags and preparing for the boating season ahead. Let's keep these wonderful traditions alive!

Registration and Details coming soon!

October ? TBD

Home Goods Boutique Fundraiser for Scholarships

In lieu of our annual Garage Sale, this year we will be hosting a Home Goods Boutique for our Members and their invited guests. We ask that our Members save up for donating their unused or lightly used good quality/condition home goods (everything from linens, kitchen goods and small appliances, area rugs, throw pillows, wall art or decorative pieces, or dish ware, etc.). We may store donated items in the attic upon request and welcome donations at our September and October meetings.

This is our second event of the year designed to support our Marine Trades Scholarship Fund. Your Boutique Committee is in the planning stages but we ask that you consider saving up your donations to help make this fundraiser a big success for our student beneficiaries in 2026!

Carl Sidle Memorial Crab Feed

Back by popular demand, PTYC will once again get "crabby"! That means we will don our bibs, grab a few sides and enjoy the bounty of mouth-watering Dungeness crabs that are cooked by our own PTYC crab masters. Carl Sidle was a much loved founder of the Port Townsend Yacht Club who passed in 2021. He was always central to the cooking of the crabs and while his passing left a hole in our hearts, his spirit will live on as we continue this fine tradition. More details to follow as plans get underway.
