This summer we had a big showing at Reid Harbor for the 4th of July parade and parties on the dock. I think 11 boats were in attendance, which is a great showing considering what we have seen in recent years. I am already thinking of additions for our dinghy for next year! A boom box for parade worthy tunes perhaps? The bubbles certainly added to the festivities this time.
Also, a big thank you to Deb Williams and her party crew for a fun Hawaiian themed summer party.
Dan and I are headed to Sables d'Olonnes, France for the start of the Golden Globe Round the World race (GGR), so we will miss the Soup and Salad Potluck for our September Meeting and the Wooden Boat Festival. Scott Abbey will host the meeting and of course Elizabeth Chaney is working hard to make the Wooden Boat Festival another great showcase for our organization. Please support both of them if you have time.
If you would like to follow the GGR and our burgee, you can download the YB races tracker and select the Golden Globe 2026 race. The race starts on September 6th and should be an ongoing adventure until next spring. The GGR website also has many wonderful clips and stories.
Sadly, Vice Commodore Scott Burrell decided to step down from the bridge due to his work schedule. The Membership Committee, along with Elizabeth Chaney, have stepped up to assume that role. Rear Commodore, Andy Taylor is in the middle of lease negotiations and completing other critical tasks, so until January 1st, the board/bridge will be short one person.
Our volunteer ranks have been dwindling. Please consider taking on the task of running an event, stepping up for a board position or assisting any way you can. The new board structure will hopefully provide individual volunteers with organizational support so no one person feels overwhelmed!
Summer is not nearly over yet. The San Juan and Gulf Islands will become calmer and less congested; the places to anchor or dock will become much more available. The cruise to Victoria and other Gulf Island spots takes off soon, so if you decide to go out, or meet up with the group, contact the Cruise Captains ASAP!
