TIME FOR YOUR PTYC SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS!
It is that time of year for donating to the PTYC Scholarship fund. This is our first year of a joint program with Jefferson Community Foundation (JCF) which provides a tax deductible way to donate to our scholarship fund.
JCF is an authorized tax deductible organization so your donations are tax deductible. You say, "but we take the standard deduction so we don’t itemize our charitable donations anymore.” But you can! Even if you take the standard deduction! If you are of that age where you are taking the "Required Minimum Distribution” from your retirement funds then any charitable donations to an IRS approved charity from your retirement fund is tax deductible in addition to your standard deduction. You merely need to have the manager of your retirement funds make that donation from your retirement account. And, like magic, that donation is now tax deductible. I am not a tax guy so I cannot provide tax guidance and the rules are changing almost every year, so talk to your tax guy and help out our future maritime students. The scholarship program, and its recipients, will benefit from your generosity.
