Boating Season Begins

Thank you to all who helped with our last general membership meeting. A few volunteers may not have heard my previous thank you (perhaps because we did not bring a microphone) but the set up and clean up crew and the Cannon’s, and anyone else who brought the food for the evening, are all very much appreciated. We had a good turn out at the St. Patrick’s Day party. I want to thank those who helped with that event, as well. Several volunteers helped to decorate the day before and we had a small crew setting up before the event. The drinks Diane and Bradley made were wonderful. The food at the potluck was Irish inspired and spectacular. When it was over, the cleanup volunteers worked seamlessly with impromptu volunteers to help us close the clubhouse. The game of Bunco was (to put it mildly) “collective confusion.” I thought about putting the rules in our archives under “important documents,” but I am not sure that would help. Starting out with a few drinks, did not help either. However, everyone just laughed and had an enjoyable time, which was the hope in the first place.
We will be busy again in April:
* USCG safety inspections are offered at three marinas starting April 6th.
* The Chowder Potluck is also on April 6th.
* Our next general meeting is on April 9th at the American Legion Hall. We will meet several of the scholarship recipients, so you do not want to miss this meeting. Initially, we need to vote to approve the recommendations of the Scholarship Committee, pursuant to our policies. This was something we did not do at the last meeting because my email was acting up!
* April 23rd scholarship fundraiser.; Duane will share Sea Stories and other Shanty Shenanigans at Key City Public Theater
* April 28th is Open Boat at Port Hadlock, with many interesting boats to visit.
* May 3rd is the Opening Day Dinner (Italian Style)
* May 4-5th is the Opening Day Cruise to Port Ludlow, with a potluck and BBQ.
We reached our goal of getting Captains for all of our cruises. We might still need a few Co-Captains. What a wonderful cruising season we have to look forward to. Website training for Captains and Co Captains to help you to understand and navigate all the features our website provides, has been conducted twice. A third session will be planned for later in the year, as we fill some final Co-Captain spots.
I hope you can find a cruise that suits you. If you want to join up with other members for another destination, post that information on the Cruising Forum. We have been studying the Waggoner’s Cruising Guide to find a few places we have not been to in the past. There is so much you can experience on a boat here because we live in an incredibly special place which is perfect for boating.
Please send me your favorite destination for the Commodore’s Quiz.
