Every yacht club has its traditions, but common to all yacht clubs is celebrating the Opening Day of the boating season, even in places where boating is year round!

Port Townsend honors this tradition with a two day celebration on the first weekend of May, starting with a Friday night dinner and culminating in the Saturday Opening Day Parade of boats in front of the downtown waterfront, led by our 2023 Fleet Captain, Wendy Weeks.

It is always exciting to see how our boating community comes together and faces whatever the spring winds and weather throw at us! Half of the fun is milling about waiting for the parade to begin and observing the sailors and the many parade vessels who come to enjoy the celebration. The parade course runs from just off Boat Haven to the Maritime Pier, ending with a special Blessing of the Fleet before vessels return to their home port.

"Believe me ... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats"
Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

This is ever so true for our Club's traditional 4th of July cruise to Reid Harbor. For more than three decades our Club has shown our patriotic colors and embarked on a 4th July dinghy parade like no other to greet fellow boaters anchored in this lovely Harbor. Rain or shine, we brighten the day for those yachters who seek a "quiet" holiday celebration.

Reid Harbor is unique in that we endeavor to occupy an entire floating dock for our festivities and shared meals. For those who enjoy a more private space, the bay has multiple mooring buoys and anchorages where the PTYC flotilla is just a dinghy ride away.

We are looking for Cruise Co-Captains for this annual event to help haul the food and the beer and wine and otherwise help with planning. Would you consider stepping up?  Contact Fleet Captain, Wendy Weeks, or Cruise Captains Bill & Eileen Baratuci to let them know how you might be able to assist.

July 31 - August 6
Whidbey Island

Captains:  Darren & Lisa O'Brien

Darren O'Brien Photos

Around Whidbey we go!! Let's journey up the "inside" of Whidbey Island with stops at Langley, Coupeville, La Conner and end at Cornet Bay/Deception Pass State Park before heading down the west side of Whidbey to home.

Each town we'll visit has wonderful art galleries and a great selection of eateries. Langley Marina offers us space on their fairly new outer breakwater dock and two nights allows for plenty of time in this charming town (see this great video about the Langley Marina). Then we'll head up Saratoga Passage to Penn Cove where we have the option to anchor or find moorage on the Coupeville Wharf (first come - first served). Heading further north we will enter the southern portion of the Swinomish Channel single file - flotilla style and spend two nights at the La Conner Marina where we have 500' of dock space reserved for our Whidbey cruisers. Additional moorage at La Conner can be found in the first come-first served moorage space on the docks, as needed.

For those who wish to make their own Anacortes Cap Sante reservations, La Conner is the perfect jumping off point to continue north into Anacortes. Unfortunately we were unable to book reservations for a group because of the popularity of the Art Fair, though individual reservations are still a possibility.

The final leg of the cruise will take cruisers from La Conner to Coronet Bay/ Deception Pass State Park for the final night before departing for home on a slack tide under the Deception Pass Bridge and down the Straits to home.

Pleasant Harbor

Co-Captains:  Scott & Linda Abbey and Gary & Joanne Mallett

Back by popular demand, this cruise takes advantage of one of Puget Sound's most pleasant and peaceful destinations on Hood Canal. Marina facilities include a Marina Galley and rooftop Pub with a view of the harbor, a swimming pool and sauna and spaces for game play. Of course we always have a little fun on the docks too, often involving our dinghys and kayaks, and a Saturday night group potluck dinner at the pool patio.

Landlubbers are invited to join the group on Saturday for the Polynesian themed potluck dinner, or come early and also participate in the fun and games!

After the weekend, cruisers may opt to continue south on Hood Canal to the beautiful Alderbrook Resort and Marina for a one or two night stay. This leg of the Cruise is an informal add-on for those interested in enjoying the resort spa, trails and fine dining.

September 15 - 20
South Sound

Captains:  Duane & Houlton Madinger

Late summer cruising is sometimes the best! Western Washington is known for some great September weather (remember 2022?) so why not take one last cruise before the weather turns and head south to the ports of Kingston, Bremerton, Brownsville and Shilshole.  In addition to the great cruising and camaraderie, your cruise captains have arranged for an optional tour of the USS Turner Joy in Bremerton, as well as two optional restaurant dinners in Bremerton and Seattle.

Landlubbers are invited to join the fall cruisers for an end of season blow out potluck at the heated pavilion above the Brownsville Marina. Event begins at 4 PM with a wine tasting. Bring your favorite Syrah or Chardonnay (or other beverage of choice) and we will vote on the favorite wine tasting. For the dinner, bring your meat to BBQ, a side or dessert to share and your dinnerware, utensils and stemware (plastic cups available). Appetizers and BBQ utensils provided. In addition to drive-ins, RVers are welcome! The Marina has 3 hook-ups and nearby (2.7 mi) Eagle's Nest RV at Lone Eagle Ranch has 2 sites available.

December 6 - 10
Kingston / Bell Harbor Winter Cruise

Co-Captains:  Bruce & Kathy Painter and Bob & Debbie Williams

🎅🏼  Let's "Jingle all the Way" to the Seattle waterfront for a holiday getaway! 🎄

Due to limited gathering space at Bell Harbor, this cruise is limited to the first eight boats to sign up. Bruce and Kathy Painter aboard Northern Sage and Bob and Debbie Williams aboard Rain Shadow will Co-Captain the cruise. Ride the colorful Great Wheel, shop Pike Place Market, visit the local Pubs and enjoy one or more shared meals. This is a cozy cruise, sometimes weather risky but warm with friendships.
