Thanks to everyone who helped set up and greet people at the Wooden Boat Show. From those I have talked to, our presence at this event was worthwhile. We had 28 individuals asking us for more information and many more who took our brochures. We also shared information about our scholarship program. This was a great opportunity for us to get the word out about how special our club is and what we are doing for boater education and the community. We invited many of those new contacts to attend our next two meetings, so be sure and introduce yourself if you see some new faces!
I hope you got out and enjoyed some time on the water this summer. We just got back from the South Sound Cruise and had a wonderful time. We called it the “culinary cruise.” We tried various restaurants all along the way starting with a group dinner at Doc’s in Bainbridge. In Tacoma, Michael Asbury told us he enjoyed “the best tacos he had ever eaten” at “Indita mia”, so we all piled into the restaurant the next night to enjoy an impromptu get together. We also enjoyed the Museums in Tacoma (Glass, Washington History and Cars!).
The farmer’s market in Olympia was a hit, despite some rain. We enjoyed another group dinner at Mercato Ristorante. Some stayed in Olympia another night and visited the Capitol building. Some ventured to Jarrell Cove on Harstine Island enjoyed electricity on the new park docks, and huckleberry pancakes for breakfast, with Karen Cavin picking (and cleaning) most of the berries and everyone pitching in to make it a special breakfast. From there we went to Longbranch and enjoyed burgers and a spectacular view of Mount Rainier at sunset. In Gig Harbor, we enjoyed the shops and went to the Tide’s Tavern to celebrate Debbie William’s birthday. (I told you this was the culinary tour!)
On our way back to Port Townsend, most of the group went to Blake Island to enjoy the park and some very friendly raccoons, while two boats returned to the public dock at Eagle Harbor. A few members of the cruise spotted whales! It was a great way to wrap up the boating season. This cruise offered something for everyone’s interests. Here are a few pictures from the trip.
We hope to see you at our next meeting where we are trying out another venue—Port Townsend Community Center (Uptown), 620 Tyler Street—, it’s back to the Clubhouse in November. We have fabulous speakers lined up for both meetings.
The Rummage Sale and Boutique fundraisers for our Scholarship Program are just around the corner. Check the PTYC.net website and/or the Baggywrinkle for details. We are hoping someone will be interested in serving on the board next year as our Treasurer. We promise to provide training to help the new Treasurer learn the ropes.
